There are various forms of abuse and harm of children and youth. Many of these never leave a bruise and are very often invisible to the eye. This is why it is very important that adults are sensitive to signs of abuse, in order to be able to start to support the child. The abuse itself may differ, the signs and symptoms might also vary depending on the age of the child and the type of abuse. As adults we must remain curious to changes in the behaviour of a child. The child ay be unaware that what they are experiencing is actually abuse, they might be afraid to speak up out of loyalty or fear of consequences and they might not know how or who they can speak to.
